Glossary

Food processor is an electrical kitchen appliance that is used to do various tasks on variety of food ingredients. The various tasks are like mince, slice, chop, puree, grate, blend etc. The blades available in this do these types of tasks. Food processors make the work easier and also much faster thereby saving a quite ample amount of time.

Glossary terms associated with the food processor are,

BLADES:

These are sharp edged tools or devices that perform various cutting operations. The operations may be slicing, chopping, blending, mincing etc.

BROIL:

This process is used to cook the food using a heat source. It can be done either directly above or below the heat source. For example food can be broiled on a grill or in a oven.

BRUSH:

Here a pastry brush will be used to apply a liquid on to surface of food. A liquid like glaze can be used.

CAPACITY:

This indicates the capability to contain or produces certain quantity of food ingredients.

CHOPPING:

It involves cutting the food or ingredients in to bite-size pieces. This is normally done using a knife. Almost all food processor will have this option. Chopped foods are cut more coarsely than minced food.

CONTROL DIAL:

This dial is used to control the speed and working of the processor. With this the speed can be increased or decreased while performing the operation.

CUISINART:

DICE:

The food ingredients are shredded into tiny cubes. These cubes will have a measurement of 1/8 inch to1/4 inch.

DRAIN:

This process effuses the fat or liquid from food. Often colander will be used to drain the liquid. Draining the liquids in food is a must in all kinds of food.

EMULSIFY:

This vital process binds two liquid ingredients together that do not combine smoothly in normal conditions. For Example it combines fat and water. This is done by adding one liquid to the other while mixing rapidly due to which the tiny droplets present in one gets dispersed with the other. A good whisk results in effective and even emulsification.

FABRICATION:

This implies the operation of trimming and cutting of meat, poultry, fish and game.

FILTERS:

It is used to separate out the sediments or unwanted things from the consumable ingredients.

FOOD CHUTE:

This chute is used to direct the food processed by the processor out of the bowl into an external container. Chute is placed on the bowl.

FOOD PUSHER:

This tool is used to push the food ingredients in to the processor. Inserting the object and pishing.

GRATE:

Here biggish pieces of food are reduced to coarse or fine threads. Grater is the tool used to do this. The biggish piece is rubbed against a rough, saw toothed surface. Food processors have this grater in the form of blades.

GRIND:

It reduces the food to small pieces which is grounded to different degrees, from fine to coarse.

MINCE:

Mince is the operation where food is cut into tiny pieces. Tiny pieces will be smaller and finer than the diced food.

PEEL:

Peeling is nothing but the removal of the skin or rind from a vegetable or a fruit. Peeler tool is available for this operation.

PUREE:

A method of grinding and mashing to make the food completely smooth is puree. Food pusher presses the food through a sieve to make them smooth.

QUENCH:

Process of quickly placing a heated object in cold water is termed quenching. Quench is done to stop the cooking process and also to remove the skin of an object from a meat. Since it stops the cooking process in middle, it is sometimes termed as “shocking”.

ROAST:

Getting a well browned surface on the food item is the main of this process. The object will be exposed to high heat to produce the awaited brown surface and also seals in the juice. Using tender pieces of the object gives good results. Normally objects are barded which are going to be roasted for long time in order to prevent drying out.
